This 1-day training class will introduce the use of GT-SUITE software for modeling hydraulic systems as well as more detailed hydro-mechanical component models, considering fluid-structure interaction. The class will consist primarily of interactive model building exercises.

Typical applications:
• Gearbox/transmission hydraulic actuation
• Fuel injection – both low and high pressure
• Fluid power
• Exhaust aftertreatment dosing
• Hydraulic variable valve actuation, including cam phasers and compression release engine brake

The following are the primary topics to be covered:

Flow network: The participant will learn how to build a model of the flow network including pipes/lines, volumes, and junctions to understand basic modeling and discretization concepts.

Valves: The participant will learn about the various levels of detail for modeling any type of hydraulic valve. This ranges from imposing the behavior based on supplier data sheets to predicting the behavior based on valve geometry and dynamic forces, using components capturing the fluid structure interaction.

Modeling hydraulic components: Concepts learned from the valve modeling will be applied to detailed, predictive models of more complex components, such as a complete spool valves, fuel injectors, high pressure pumps, and others.

Modeling a hydraulic system: Build a model of the full system to evaluate results such as pressure pulsation, flow rates, fluid and structure temperatures, etc.

General GT-SUITE topics: In addition to the above topics, this course will also discuss some of the general features in GT-SUITE, including:
• 1-D Flow (steady state and transient) simulation
• Solver/integrator options
• Fluid properties, including cavitation and aeration
• Model Setup- initialization, parameters sweeps, convergence
• GT-POST post-processor
