GT-3DMBD Advanced Tribology

Tribology Modeling Simulation

Tribology Modeling WHAT IS GT-3DMBD ADVANCED TRIBOLOGY?

GT-3DMBD Advanced Tribology is used to model the effect of surface deformation on conformal and counter-formal contact interfaces. Elasto-hydrodynamic (EHD) models are available to predict the behavior more accurately in the mixed lubrication regime.

Enhanced Tribology Solutions ELASTO-HYDRODYNAMIC MODELLING

EHD models can be applied to say crankshaft and connecting rod journal bearings, piston skirt to liner interface to address friction and wear issues. The functionality can also be extended to any journal bearing or piston-cylinder interface applications such as pumps, compressors and so on. Contact behavior at surfaces such as cams and rollers with complex crown shapes can be modelled using Contact Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) model to determine the contact pressure and subsurface stress.

Advanced Features

  • Elasto-Hydrodynamic (EHD) journal bearing model with journal and bearing flexibility
  • Elasto-Hydrodynamic (EHD) analysis at the piston skirt-liner interface
  • Model engineered surface textures such as bumps, dimples, and microgrooves
  • Contact Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) Stress Analysis and subsurface stress evaluation
  • Integration with 3D FE bodies for piston, connecting rod, engine block, crankshaft, camshaft, etc.
  • Integration with reduced super-elements from ANSYS, Altair, NASTRAN and Abaqus
