This 1-day training class will introduce the use of GT-SUITE for modeling of lubrication flow systems as well as bearings. The class will consist of interactive model building exercises as well as demonstration.

Typical applications:

  • Hydraulic analysis of engine and transmission oil circuits
  • Oil pump sizing
  • Oil consumer analysis
  • Modeling of detailed positive displacement pumps
  • Bearing analysis

The following are the primary topics to be covered:

Flow network: The participant will learn how to build a model of the flow network including pipes/lines, volumes, and junctions to understand basic modeling and discretization concepts. Much of this work will be done by converting a 3D-CAD model of a flow network using GT-SUITE unique 3Dà1D preprocessing capabilities.

Modeling of oil consumers: The participant will learn about the various levels of detail for modeling any type of hydraulic valve. This ranges from imposing the behavior based on supplier data sheets to predicting the behavior based on geometry and dynamic forces, using components capturing the fluid structure interaction.

Modeling of bearings: The participant will be introduced to the different levels of detail and capabilities of GT-SUITE bearing models and how to successfully utilize them.

Modeling of detailed pumps: The participant will get an introduction to the modeling of variable displacement oil pumps in GT-SUITE

General GT-SUITE topics: In addition to the above topics, this course will also discuss some of the general features in GT-SUITE, including:

  • 1-D Flow (steady state and transient) simulation
  • Solver/integrator options
  • Fluid properties
  • Model Setup- initialization, parameters sweeps, convergence
  • GT-POST post-processor
