This class is intended for users with previous experience or users who participate in this free-of-charge Introduction Training.

This 2-day course is designed for users of GT-SUITE that are interested in modeling flow acoustics. This class will specifically focus on simulation of intake and exhaust systems, including resonators, airboxes, catalysts, and mufflers.

The course will include the construction of models and use of the software, which will enable the participants to use the software immediately. The following topics will be covered, and examples will be provided:

  • Building flow systems (ex. intake/exhaust)
  • Modeling of: resonator, airbox, catalyst, muffler and other acoustic sensitive components such as flexible pipes and dampers.
  • Using GEM3D to import CAD geometry or build a 3D model and convert it into a 1D model
  • Modeling pressure losses
  • Design Optimizations
  • Transmission loss
  • Integrating Exhaust system with Engine models for Acoustic analysis
  • Order analysis
  • SPL predictions
  • Transient Noise Simulation
  • Making sound files from simulation (WAV format)
  • Pass-by noise simulation
  • Multiple Noise Source Modeling (ex. dual exhaust)

If time permits at the end of the class, additional topics can be covered, including:

  • ‘Data-only’ Fast Acoustic Calculations
  • Porous Intake Pipe Modeling
  • Impedance and Transfer Functions calculations
  • Linear acoustic analysis
  • Linear applications:
  • Source characterization
  • Transfer matrix
