Student Intern – Chemical Systems Development (Hybrid)

Gamma Technologies, LLC (GT) is offering an Academic Internship for Chemical Systems Developer in solver development team.

This  hybrid employment necessitates working two days in the office. (Westmont, IL)

Position Summary

You will join our solver development team which actively develops mathematical models for Multiphysics problems in engine, aftertreatment systems and beyond. Your role will be to assist developers by taking on well-defined programming projects concerning physical modeling, code infrastructure or data and 3D visualization/animation tasks. You will be exposed to the development process in the solver group, and you will have the opportunity to learn how mathematical models are designed and implemented in the software. You should be highly organized and detail-oriented, with outstanding analytic and problem-solving abilities. It is also important that you can work effectively with minimal oversight, while also functioning well in a team environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop elements of physical models used to simulate chemical systems
  • Perform model optimizations based on CFD or experimental data
  • Generate model results and perform analysis on the simulation results in 1D/2D/3D
  • Enhance the solver infrastructure to make it more efficient and maintainable

Education, Experience and Skills

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Currently enrolled in a master’s degree program focused in mechanical, chemical, or aerospace engineering
  • Desired GPA 3.5
  • Interest in flow, thermal, chemical system design, and modeling
  • Background in programming languages for scientific computing (FORTRAN, C, C++, python, MATLAB)
  • Experience in CFD simulation software (ANSYS, FLUENT, START-CCM, COMSOL)
  • Strong interest and background in computational modeling and/or mathematics
