This FREE 1-day course is intended for those interested in developing Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) or pure Electric Vehicle (EV) models for fuel economy or range studies. This course will focus particularly on identifying and solving challenges of HEV/EV system integration through the use of GT-SUITE. An energy optimization study will be performed using a diesel through-the-road HEV model. The following topics will be covered in this course:

Introduction to HEV modeling capabilities in GT-SUITE
  • Modeling of various hybrid electric vehicle topologies
  • Templates available for model construction
  • Post-processing tools available (GT-POST)
Diesel Through-The-Road Hybrid Analysis:
  • Model features and sub-systems:
    • Engine, Aftertreatment, Vehicle, Electrical, Thermal Management, Controls
  • Operating modes
    • Electric only, Series, Series-Parallel, Conventional
  • Constraints and hardware protection
    • Thermal considerations
      • Engine, Electric machine, Battery
    • Physical limits
      • Electric machine, Engine torque, Battery
    • Optimization

      • Maximize fuel economy while minimizing emissions over various driving cycles
Case studies will illustrate the use of these models for identifying common issues in HEV design and how they can be resolved in a model-based environment in GT-SUITE.
