This 1-day class will introduce to cabin modeling and simulation in GT-SUITE. It will introduce the user to the three different levels of cabin modeling in GT-SUITE: Mono-Volume, Multi-Volume and 3D. For each level the model building process will be covered, and best simulation practices introduced. For the 3D cabin the thermal structure will be modelled in GT-TAITherm.

This 1-day class will introduce the use of GT-SUITE software for modeling the distribution of heat within components of the electric powertrain, specifically electric motors.
Electric motor heat distribution models allow the prediction of heat rejection to coolant and/or oil at any operating condition and may be used to study concepts for temperature reduction in the motor as well as defining optimal strategies for the motor control. The class is targeted towards engineers with responsibility for e-components cooling or total vehicle energy management. This class will cover the process of building and calibrating e-components heat distribution models, beginning from CAD data. The process involves significant use of the 3D pre-processing tools of GT-SUITE (GEM3D).
The following are the primary topics to be covered:
- Conversion of CAD Data for electric motor
- Building up complete model in GEM3D (FE-components) and export to GT-ISE
- Advanced treatment of winding anisotropy and spray cooling
- Steady state thermal analysis
- Switch to 1D lumped mass approach and model calibration for transient analysis

- Electrochemical Modeling of Lithium-ion Cells with GT-AutoLion: The fundamentals behind electrochemical modeling will be taught and participantswill gain experience in building electrochemical models in GT-AutoLion. Additionally, participants will learn to build calibrated GT-AutoLion models of Li-ion cells from information on a cell’s specifications sheet.
- Virtual Test Bench using Controls: Overview and Hands on exercises to demonstrate how can we setup battery tester using some of the templates from GT-Controls Library and also discuss fast charging techniques avoiding lithium plating.
- Electrical-Equivalent Modeling of Batteries & Characterization: Electrical-equivalent battery models will be introduced, and the participant will learn how to define these models in GT-SUITE and GT-AutoLion as well as how to characterize these models from experimental or GT-AutoLion test data.
- Integration with Vehicle System Models: The participant will learn how various battery models may be integrated with vehicle system models to accomplish transient vehicle drive cycle analyses, electric vehicle range prediction, or vehicle performance analyses.

The class will consist primarily of interactive model building exercises. The following are the primary topics to be covered:
- Model building in GT-TAITherm: Modeling of a thermal structure model using a 3D cabin geometry in GT-TAITherm including topics like multi-layer parts, surface properties, environment modeling including solar radiation and many more
- CFD Flow Field Mapping:
- Requirements to CFD data to be used for CFD FFM
- Modeling building in COOL3D/GEM3D using CFD data and export to GT-ISE
- Using CFD data as flow solution in GT-ISE
- Running simulations using CFD data
- Human Thermal Model:
- Modeling of human in GT-TAITherm model
- Including human in the simulation model
- Running simulations including human thermal model

Cabin Modeling & Simulation (Basic)

This class is intended for users with previous experience or users who participate in this free-of-charge Introduction Training.
This 1-day class will introduce to cabin modeling and simulation in GT-SUITE. It will introduce the user to the three different levels of cabin modeling in GT-SUITE: Mono-Volume, Multi-Volume and 3D. For each level the model building process will be covered, and best simulation practices introduced. For the 3D cabin the thermal structure will be modeled in GT-TAITherm.
This course will be conducted online via web meeting.

- Multi-Volume cabin: Usage and calibration of a multi-volume cabin and integration it into the cabin air loop
- 3D cabin:
- 3D Model building in COOL3D/GEM3D and export to GT-ISE
- 3D thermal structure model in GT-TAITherm (Note: The model building in GT-TAITherm is covered in the Cabin Modeling (Advanced) training)
- Usage and calibration of the 3D cabin and integration into the cabin air loop

This FREE 2-week self-learning course (self-paced: ~6hr content) will introduce GT-SUITE to new users. The intention of this training is to provide an overview of different GT-domains and to teach the software handling.
This is a self-learning course where video tutorials link would be shared with all the confirmed attendees on the day of training along with instructions. All attendees are then expected to go over the material and videos which has a total stream time of ~6 hours. In the second week, we will have a session to discuss queries.
