  • Good internet connection
  • Ideally two monitors/devices (although not required)
    • one to follow the instructor on the web meeting (web browser only)
    • one to use GT-SUITE for interactive model building

This class will consist of a mix of presentations and interactive model building exercises The following are the primary topics to be covered:

  • Introduction to the map-based subsystem model templates
    • Ship hull
    • Propeller
    • Combustion Engine
    • Gearbox
    • Electric Machine
    • Electric Energy Storage
  • Introduction to the controls concept
    • Ship Controller (Model-based speed controller)
    • Supervisory Controls (Rule-based, ECMS)
    • Low level Controllers (Engine, Genset, Battery)
  • Duty-cycle analysis
    • Fuel & Energy Economy
    • Emissions

If time permits, more specialized topics may be covered as requested by participants. Some possible topics are:

  • Propulsion and power supply topologies
  • Alternative power sources (fuel cell, solar, wind)
  • Maneuver definitions
  • Integration of physical subsystem model
