This two-day course will focus on design, evaluation, and optimization of cooling and HVAC systems for electric vehicles. Additionally, this training will introduce the use of GT-SUITE software for modeling the distribution of heat within batteries. Battery heat distribution models enable users to design and optimize the battery pack and its related cooling components such as cooling plates or fins. Furthermore, those models can be used to integrate the thermal and electric domains to study system level effects and help design other components like the BMS. The course is targeted towards engineers with responsibility for battery cooling or total vehicle energy management. This course will cover the process of building and calibrating battery heat distribution models, beginning from CAD data. The process involves significant use of the 3D pre-processing tools of GT-SUITE (GEM3D and GT-SpaceClaim). During the course of the training standalone battery model will be integrated into a system level electric vehicle thermal management model.
- Introductory concepts and system level modeling in GT-SUITE:
- Introduction to 1D flow and thermal simulation in GT-SUITE
- Single-phase circuits and components (Fans, Pumps, Valves, Heat Exchangers, etc.)
- Two-phase circuits and components (Refrigerants, Compressors, Cabin)
- Model Setup – initialization, parameter sweeps
- Control strategies
- Subassemblies, user-created component libraries, and model management
- Post-processing (GT-POST)
- Detailed 1D-3D heat distribution modeling of electric powertrain components in GT-SUITE
- Conversion of CAD Data for battery pack
- Building up complete model in GEM3D (lumped thermal model and FE-components) and export to GT-ISE
- Calibration of flow distribution & heat transfer
- Integration of flow/thermal model into system level EV thermal management model
- Link of flow/thermal model to electric circuits
- Model testing for transient driving cycles
Due to the limited room capacity, seats will be allocated preferentially to commercial customers.
- Fee:
