This class is intended for users with previous experience or users who participate in this free-of-charge Introduction Training.

This course will be conducted online via web meeting.

To reserve your spot, you must have access to the following:

  • Computer with GT-SUITE v2020 (v2021 recommended)
  • Access to an active license
  • Good internet connection
  • Ideally two monitors/devices
    • one to follow the instructor on the web meeting (web browser only)
    • one to use GT-SUITE for interactive model building

This class will introduce the use of GT-AutoLion and GT-SUITE for modeling of battery systems, modules, and cells.  This course is targeted towards engineers responsible for battery sizing, cell selection, battery characterization, battery performance modeling, and battery life prediction.

This class will consist of a mix of presentations and interactive model building exercises.  The following are the primary topics to be covered:

  • Electrochemical Modeling of Lithium-ion Cells with GT-AutoLion:  The fundamentals behind electrochemical modeling will be taught and participants will gain experience in building electrochemical models in GT-AutoLion.  Additionally, participants will learn to build calibrated GT-AutoLion models of Li-ion cells from information on a cell’s specifications sheet.
  • Virtual Test Bench using Controls:  Overview and Hands on exercises to demonstrate how can we setup battery tester using some of the templates from GT-Controls Library and also discuss fast charging techniques avoiding lithium plating.
  • Electrical-Equivalent Modeling of Batteries & Characterization:  Electrical-equivalent battery models will be introduced and the participant will learn how to define these models in GT-SUITE and GT-AutoLion as well as how to characterize these models from experimental or GT-AutoLion test data.
  • Integration with Vehicle System Models:  The participant will learn how various battery models may be integrated with vehicle system models to accomplish transient vehicle drive cycle analyses, electric vehicle range prediction, or vehicle performance analyses.
