Mechanics Development – Computational Tribology

Gamma Technologies, LLC (GT) is looking for a Senior Engineer Mechanics Development – Computational Tribology with a solid work ethic, excellent judgment, and a desire to build a long-term career with us.

Gamma Technologies develops, markets, and sells engineering simulation software called GT-SUITE. With roots in the automotive industry, GT’s software is leveraged by nearly all the world’s leading automotive manufacturers. Our solutions help automotive companies build more fuel-efficient vehicles that get better gas mileage and reduce emissions without sacrificing vehicle performance. The move from traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) powered by gasoline or diesel fuel to electrified vehicles presents an enormous market opportunity for GT as our software allows Electrical Vehicle manufactures and their suppliers to design better vehicles. Regulatory agencies globally have mandated that vehicle manufacturers reduce harmful environmental emission output, or they will face significant financial penalties and GT helps our clients meet these mandates.

In addition to the automotive industry, GT serves the aerospace, HVAC and marine industries.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop, enhance, test and maintain mixed lubrication sub-models in the context of rigid/flexible multi-body dynamics (MBD), kinematics, contact mechanics models applicable to dynamics, durability, noise, vibration, friction and wear issues in powertrain, vehicle and general mechanical subsystems.
  • work, within a mature platform and mathematical solution architecture, on projects focused on performance, scalability, user-friendliness and 3D visualization aspects of MBD and tribological models.
  • Test computational models in the context of integrated simulations of real-life systems aimed at addressing customers’ product design, performance and durability issues.
  • Collaborate with other developers and application engineers on functional and I/O requirements and design of models. Adaptation of models to user requirements.

Education, Experience and Skills

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering, or PhD candidate who has completed defense of his/her dissertation, with focus on modeling tribology and mixed lubrication in multi-body systems.
  • 2+ years of academic or industry experience with computational modeling of mechanical systems, with some focus on tribology: contact kinematics, hydrodynamic, elasto-hydrodynamic and mixed lubrication of conformal and/or counter-formal interfaces.
  • Experience with engineering programming languages such as Fortran, C, C++
  • Theory and implementation of the finite element method.
  • Technologies for enhancement of model performance and scalability, such as model reduction, sparse systems and parallelization.
  • Familiarity with powertrain subsystems in conventional and electrified vehicles and/or other industrial machinery.
  • Familiarity with commercial/research tools for multi-body dynamics (MBD).
