About the Webinar

With the global challenges with regards to overall pollution levels, legislation worldwide has become stricter to reduce automotive emissions. Once such regulation is the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) norms. RDE requires emissions testing on a cycle that is representative of a Real-World Usage Pattern (RWUP) for a vehicle. RDE is challenging since it adds different road profiles, altitude & ambient temperature as a new environment for emissions testing, compared to current testing protocols in a lab, which are perfectly reproducible and have no external effects. India has also introduced I-RDE Norms (Indian Rea Driving Emissions).

The fact that the road is now part of the testing environment brings additional challenges in the development phase. The regulations contain environment and trip dynamics rules that decide whether a trip is valid. During the development phase of the vehicle, there is a necessity to run the vehicle on multiple RDE routes. However, with the unpredictability of conditions on the road, it is difficult to get RDE valid trips. This necessitates an alternate work-flow, where RDE valid routes can be generated in a simulated environment, virtual testing could be performed and dependence on real-world tests could be reduced during vehicle development.

In this co-hosted online proficiency improvement program, we introduce RDE regulations, explain testing procedures and work-flows to discuss virtual solutions to reduce dependence on real-world RDE testing during development
