This class is intended for users with previous experience or users who participate in this free-of-charge Introduction Training.

This class is designed for users of GT-SUITE that are interested in modeling flow acoustics.  This class will specifically focus on simulation of intake and exhaust systems, including resonators, airboxes, catalysts, and mufflers.  General NVH topics will also be discussed that can apply to any application.

This course will be conducted online via web meeting.

To reserve your spot, you must have access to the following:

  • Computer with GT-SUITE v2021 or v2020
  • Access to an active license
  • Good internet connection
  • Ideally two monitors/devices (although not required)
    • one to follow the instructor on the web meeting (web browser only)
    • one to use GT-SUITE for interactive model building

The class will include the construction of models and use of the software, which will enable the participants to use the software immediately.  The following topics will be covered:

  • Introduction to the predictive 1D solution and acoustic analysis components
  • Building flow systems
  • Modeling of resonators, air boxes, catalysts, mufflers, and other acoustic sensitive components
  • Use GEM3D to import CAD, build a 3D model, and convert it to a 1D model
  • Pressure loss modeling
  • Transmission Loss (TL) modeling
  • Engine noise modeling (Microphone SPL, Order Analysis, Audio files)

If time permits at the end of the class, additional topics can be covered, including:

  • Transient Noise Simulation (run-ups, pass-by simulation)
  • Multiple Noise Source Modeling
  • Design Optimizations
  • Data-only Acoustic Calculations (fast)
  • Porous Intake Pipe Modeling
  • Impedance, TL, transfer functions
  • Exhaust Aftertreatment

Due to the limited number of seats, priority will be given to commercial customers.
