Versatile Tool for any Problem of Hydraulics and Pneumatics

GT-SUITE can be used to model any type of hydraulic or pneumatic system.   This may include purely hydraulic or pneumatic flow networks as well as the interaction between the fluid and mechanical components, such as dynamic models of hydraulic and pneumatic valves.   Some examples of these applications include:

  • Hydraulic valvetrain actuation
  • Mobile hydraulics (hydraulic/pneumatic hammers, motion control, etc.)
  • Steering systems
  • Braking systems
  • Wet clutches

Detailed component modeling is facilitated by the flexible FMT (Fluid-Mechanical Template) technology, which allow the user to create a dynamic model of any complex hydraulic or pneumatic valve from flexible pre-defined geometrically-based valve templates.   Users can also create their own library of components with the compound template feature provided.   Components from the electrical and magnetic libraries are available for detailed models of solenoid or piezo actuators.

The GT-SUITE flow solver provides a solution of the compressible 1-D Navier-Stokes equations (conservation of mass, momentum, and energy).   It models cavitation, aeration, and species transport everywhere in the system.   Thanks to the most powerful solver on the market, GT-SUITE is specifically designed to handle the most complex systems with very accurate models at very high and low (cavitation) pressures.   Of particular importance is that it always solves the energy equation which gives it a key advantage.   Despite the level of detail that it offers, GT-SUITE at the same time provides the fastest solver on the market.   The speed advantage is particularly prominent in large multi-component system simulations.

In addition to 1-D translational or rotational mechanical systems, the hydraulic or pneumatic circuits can be linked to the multi-body dynamics components available in the mechanical library of GT-SUITE to model systems such as the linkages on mobile hydraulics machinery (excavators, graders, etc.).

A strong advantage of GT-SUITE is the integration of different sub-systems in a single model. Among the examples of such GT-SUITE integration have been systems such as those below:

 

  • Hydraulic valvetrain can be integrated with the detailed engine (GT-POWER library) in a single model to capture the interactions between the two systems.   The valve lift depends on the cylinder and port pressures, and vice-versa. In this type of application, it can be crucial to accurately integrate the two systems
  • Hydraulic or pneumatic systems on mobile hydraulics equipment can be integrated with the vehicle library to analyze power consumption over an operating cycle

GT-SUITE is also commonly used to model fuel injection systems.
