Exhaust Aftertreatment

Flexible Kinetics Solution for all Types of Aftertreatment Devices

See GT-POWER Brochure (PDF)

To meet the legislated current and future stringent emission requirements, today's vehicles are forced to use a variety of components and systems to reduce the engine out emissions within the exhaust system.   Gasoline engines will continue to primarily use standard three way catalytic converters, while diesel engines will need to be equipped with one or more of a variety of different aftertreatment components, including SCR, DPF, LNT, and DOC.

GT-POWER is the only engine simulation available which includes a built-in chemical kinetics and aftertreatment device library that enables the user to model any of these devices in isolation or together as an integrated system, while providing the user the complete flexibility to modify or impose the kinetic mechanisms participating in the conversion process within the device.   The GT-POWER kinetics and aftertreatment library includes a complete set of pre-configured models of DOC, LNT, SCR, and DPF, that the user may incorporate into a model and begin performing aftertreatment simulations with minimum effort.   Models may then be modified to study the effects of utilizing different reaction mechanisms and different catalytic materials (Pt, Cs, Rh, V, for instance), to optimize the performance of the device.   Thus, the user is not limited to studying only the devices, with the reaction mechanisms supplied with GT-POWER, but are free to conduct in-depth investigations and explore new concepts and systems.

The GT-POWER aftertreatment modeling solution comes equipped with several state of the art numerical integrators that provide for a numerically efficient solution to this computationally challenging problem.   In fact, many GT-POWER aftertreatment models can be run faster than real time, making them suitable for control system simulations within an SiL and/or HiL environment.   The solution can utilize any of GTI's explicit, implicit, or quasi-steady numerical solvers to allow the user to make the choice between level of detail captured vs simulation runtime.
